Although still in its infancy the sale for lab created diamonds is now a real part of the diamond and jewellery industry. There are two driving factors for created diamonds, to provide an ethically sourced product that has not been mined and to have a more economically priced diamond in the market. As a Brisbane diamond merchant, Diamond Brokers Queensland, have recognised that there are a number of Australian consumers looking to purchase lab created diamonds for various personal reasons over the standard naturally sourced diamonds.
A lab created diamond is identical in almost every way to a natural diamond except for how they react under different wavelengths of UV light and are so difficult for even a diamond expert to test this difference that there has been the need for very strict guidelines as to how they are labelled and released into the market to avoid any confusion or misrepresentation between the two products. Diamond Brokers Queensland has partnered directly with several created diamond laboratories to provide a large source of created diamonds for sale to our Brisbane and surrounding clients who desire a lab created diamond for their engagement ring.
Ethical choice created diamonds
Lab created diamonds are 100% ethical, created from a chemical vapor in a laboratory under high temperature and pressure (often called HTHP diamonds) to produce a crystal carbon structure of pure grown diamond. These cultivated crystals are then cut into faceted diamonds for jewellery that are completely eco friendly and conflict free. Created diamonds are not a simulant like cubic zirconia or moissanite they are real man made diamonds with the identical optical, physical and chemical properties of natural diamond.
Although there have been strict procedures put in place to control the movement or rough diamond to control the problems associated with conflict diamonds many clients want to have total assurance that the diamond that they are buying is 100% ethically sourced with absolutely no chance that it could have been a “blood diamond” or even that where it was mined the workers were not unfairly treated.
How to buy a created diamond
In Brisbane lab created diamonds are still quite difficult to buy but can be purchased from a few selected diamond merchants. So far the percentage of lab created diamonds in the market is very small as commercial producers are still limited and as the market acceptance is still being tested. Created diamonds have been in the market now for a number of years in fancy coloured varieties of yellow, red, pink, blue, green and orange.
In more recent times the process to create jewellery grade white diamonds has been perfected which has really allowed the producers to enter the main diamond market and stack hold a place as a real and viable buying option for consumers to a natural earth sourced diamond.
If you are interested in buying a lab created diamond please contact our staff at Diamond Brokers Queensland to discuss your created diamond engagement ring or jewellery requirements and book in a consultation.
All of our large size created diamond come with a full international diamond grading laboratory certificate (GIA or IGI) stating that the diamond is lab created.
What is the price of a lab created diamond
As a relatively new introduction to the diamond market and coming in with a distinct difference in their marketability it has been necessary for the price of lab created diamonds to be quite competitive to help gain acceptance into the market. Initially the price was very similar due the difficultly in buying a created diamond but now that there are a significant number of supplier and access has become is much easier the relative price is 20-30% below that compared to the same quality in a natural mined diamond.
Round cut diamonds are the predominant shape available but all fancy shapes are available just in more limited sizes and qualities. With such a price difference to the natural diamonds, lab created diamonds are a great value options for those clients wanting to push the most out of their budget.
