Calculated by American physicist Marcel Tolkowsky in 1919 the 57 facet round brilliant cut is considered the ideal modern design for displaying a diamond’s brilliance. They have the most precise grading of all diamond shapes and command the highest price for quality cut stones. Since the early 90’s when it became apparent that the quality of a diamond’s cut greatly enhances a diamond’s scintillation, certification has become an essential part of buying a large diamonds. All certifiers have their own interpretation of what is considered to be an ideal cut round brilliant diamond with GIA, AGS and HRD adhering closest to the original scientific specification. The best quality diamonds will adhere closely to these specifications but they are also measured on how the light performs within the diamond.
