Purchasing a Blue Diamond in Brisbane
Finding a significant quality Blue diamond for sale in Brisbane or anywhere in Australia can be a difficult task. Natural Blue diamonds are very limited and cannot be found in just any jewellery store. They must be ordered through a specialised diamond merchant who can work with your requirements to find you the perfect blue diamond. Due to their rarity, purchasing a larger sized blue diamond is more realistically possible with either a lab-grown or colour-treated natural diamond to achieve the desired result at an affordable price.

Natural Certifed Blue Diamonds
The circumstances for a blue diamond to be produced in nature is very rare and then for the diamond to also be of high enough quality to be sent for certification is even more exceptional. The majority of natural blue diamonds will have secondary colour tones or their appearance will not put them in the fancy colour range making them a lot less valuable for the jewellery market. Most jewellery grade blue diamonds are quite light and slightly grey in colour with a clear and attractive colour and should have a supporting recognised certification. The most exceptional specimens can be discovered in vivid royal blues and turquoise and must have a GIA certificate to support the quality.
Blue Diamond Grading
Blue diamonds are graded just like all other diamonds on; cut, clarity, carat weight and colour and requires an international certificate to back up these qualities like The Gemological Institute of America (GIA). When it comes to blue diamonds all of the qualities are important but there can often be sacrifices to some of these if it will improve the quality of the colour. Colour is complex and GIA will judge the colour based off the hue, tone and saturation of the colour which is why colour comparison can be so difficult to match and assess for price.
GIA describes the colour of a blue diamond as one of: Fancy Light Blue, Fancy Blue, Fancy Intense Blue, Fancy Deep Blue, Fancy Vivid Blue or Fancy Dark Blue.
Even the variation within each of these grades can vary significantly and look completely different which is why we always recommend seeking the advice of an expert to help with making your final selection.
Famous Blue Diamonds
The Hope diamond is probably the most famous of the exceptional quality blue diamonds and was featured in the movie, Titanic. It is only every few years that a new exceptional size and quality blue diamond is presented to the market and because of their status they are auctioned to the highest bidder at Christie’s or Sotheby’s international auction houses and continually break all previous records.

They are only very rarely found as pure intense or vivid green and are more likely to be mixed with tones of blue and yellow fancy colours.
