The Ideal Cut Diamond

Since diamonds were first cut there has been an obsession to maximise the brilliance and fire through the precision of the angles and proportions to produce the ideal diamond. The modern round brilliant cut diamond was born in 1919 and termed the “ideal cut” as the ultimate formula for perfection.

Ideal Cut Diamonds Brisbane

Only Brisbane’s most ideal cut diamonds will produce the greatest brilliance and sparkle by refracting all of the light that enters the diamond back out of the crown with perfect symmetry. Measuring the light refractive index and critical angles of a diamond has to be access by more than just a keen eye and knowledge. To accurately assess a diamond for an ideal quality cut requires the skill and equipment of an internationally recognised certification laboratory like GIA, HRD, IGI and AGS to grade symmetry, polish and overall cut grade.

History of the Ideal Cut Diamond

Marcel Tolkowsky, a Belgian mathematician and diamond polisher unveiled in 1919 the most scientifically accurate diamond model for a round brilliant cut diamond. Although it has been identified that there is no single point for an ideal round diamond, there is a standard of proportion that a diamond must fall into to be considered perfect. The basics of this are a median table size of 58%, 15% crown height, 43%pavilion depth, a knife edge girdle and no culet.
